A continuously looped, three part video installation on 3 flat-screen televisions in Cinematek, Brussels. Screening in context of ÂGE D’OR, The Laboratory for Antiquated Video Systems. (excerpt)
A video installation displayed on three Sony Trinitron CRT monitors, presented as part of the #VITRIEN project, created for the sound archive of BNA-Bbot, a Brussels-based organization that invites artists to work with their database of recordings and interviews. I used AI to clone a hybrid voice — trained on multiple archive recordings — that functions simultaneously as a collective and an individual voice (hence the title "Chimera"), and has it randomly generate rhyming poems drawn from recordings in the archive. These poems then drive an analog video synthesis system the artist developed, which produces images from audio signals using techniques dating back to the 1960s that share the same cybernetic principles — such as feedback loops and data distortion — that later gave rise to modern AI. The result draws a direct historical line between contemporary artificial intelligence and its technological ancestors.
